Reduces anxiety and stress
Great operability

Less sedation and fewer complications with more relaxed patients! HappyMed will save costs and increase well-being.

The imagination of a surgery or other medical treatment is oftentimes enough to cause anxiety and stress in a patient. This then triggers the body’s fight or flight system. The loss of control leads to patients focusing more on their immediate environment and reacting with a heightened sense of awareness to various sensory inputs, like for instance the beeping of machines. The release of cortisol increases, followed by an elevation in blood pressure as well as an acceleration of pulse and breathing rate. It is a vicious cycle from which it is very difficult for the patient to come out of alone without psychological support or additional sedation.

Studies show that this leads to increased use of sedatives with their accompanying side effects, complications, longer hospitalizations and recovery times, in addition to complex psychological consequences.

Great operability, hygienic, mobile and ready to use immediately. HappyMed was specially developed for use in hospitals.

The HappyMed video glasses enable your patients to suppress their unpleasant, stressful, and anxiety-laden surroundings and relax.Less_Sedation_with_HappyMed_Videoglasses
In addition, a variety of licensed movies like documentaries, comedies, children’s and feature movies, concerts, relaxation and action videos are available for use.

  • "With HappyMed we can underline our efforts for the welfare of our patients even more. At the same time, the glasses facilitate our work pre-, peri- and postoperatively. During the intervention, we need fewer sedatives and patients are calm. This results in fewer complications and more fluid processes in procedures."

  • "The HappyMed glasses have made all, patients, anesthesia doctors and sisters as well as the operational partners, enthusiastic. Interventions in local anesthesia or IV sedation just pass more calmly. The waiting times are perceived as shorter, which makes it easier to control preoperative anxiety. When children wear the glasses, it’s usually possible to lie a venous access problem free. Children who have to undergo a surgical procedure regularly already asked in advance if the glasses are available."

  • "For us, the glasses are an important tool to make the hospital stay as convenient and relaxed as possible for our patients. The effects of distraction and relaxation are clearly noticeable, the use of tranquilizers has already been reduced markedly."

  • "Initially, we looked at HappyMed as it was a technical toy. Meanwhile, all patients who require medical sedation, are first treated with HappyMed. We have learned that the audiovisual decoupling with HappyMed is more comfortable and free of side effects for the patient. The system noticeably relieves our team in the operating room, as well as in the recovery room."

  • "Apart from the medical component, we have to think about the emotions of our patients. For that purpose there are multiple methods including listening to music, watching films or reading books. An interesting approach is the one of HappyMed, to combine several of these components, in order to bring patients into a world that helps them forget the here and now for a while."

The HappyMed system consists of a pair of high-quality video glasses, over-ear headphones with surround sound, a media center and a remote control which can be intuitively operated. The integrated battery enables continuous use for more than 10 hours.

Thanks to the high-quality optics from Carl Zeiss, your patient will enjoy an incredible visual experience. The visual acuity can be individually adjusted for every eye. The eye shield which is also included can be easily put on and enables complete visual isolation. The HappyMed system can however also be used without the eye shield: Your patients can therefore continue to be aware of their surroundings, should they wish, while they dive into the visual worlds.

Both sides of the high-quality surround sound headphones contain an on/off switch and guarantee an optimal sound experience. The volume can be easily altered, so it is perfectly possible to communicate with the patient.

In order to provide all of your patients with the right distraction, a variety of documentaries, comedies, children’s and feature movies, concerts, relaxation and action videos are available. During the treatment, you can control HappyMed using the integrated touchscreen or your patient can take this over using the remote control which is intuitive to operate. All movies are licensed for use in your practice. No internet connection is required.

Using films at the hospital requires an open screening with the special creator – and exploitation rights need to be considered. Extra fees need to be paid for these. This is a very costly and expensive process, whereas those who do not take them into account can expect legal action and huge fines from the film industry.

HappyMed has already included this. We pay your royalty fees directly to the film producers.

Stress and anxiety are a constant companion in medical facilities, often with underestimated consequences. With HappyMed, you distract your patients in a positive manner and bring their psychological well-being back to the fore (more details can be found under Studies).

Brilliant sound and picture quality, together with a large selection of video content, delivers a thrilling experience. The position of the video glasses and headphones can be adjusted with ease, while the visual acuity is individually adjustable for those who wear glasses.

The compact and mobile system is immediately ready to use. You do not need to carry out any installation, cabling or renovation work. The self-explanatory control functions via the touchscreen or via the intuitive remote control. A large selection of licensed videos is included.

Gentle distracting patients without using medication enables calm, concentrated work in your environment. It is continually possible to speak with the patients. A long battery life of over 10 hours ensures operation across the entire day.

Comparison of solutions

TV solutions require enormous infrastructural modifications: Screens will be either mounted to the ceiling or the walls, and you have to lay cables and also set up signals and programs for this purpose. While installing, you are losing out on revenue (unused treatment rooms). Treatments close to the face, the distance of the screens as well as the increased background noise can significantly limit the visual and acoustic experience. As static solutions, they also lack flexibility in all forms of application.
Furthermore, there is still the problem of choosing and licensing suitable movies which can be shown in the clinical environment.

Poor view of the screen during treatment

As a brand new technology, virtual reality provides a vivid experience. However, the current sets involve purely hardware solutions. Integrating such a solution into the medical environment comes with, above all, high costs and a lot of effort.
Motion sickness represents a big problem for many users. There is no external user interface either, which makes the control much more difficult. Older people, in particular, often struggle with these solutions. Patients are permanently completely cut off and there is no chance of minimizing the visual loss of control – such as by taking off the eye shield as is possible with the HappyMed system –, which can quickly lead to mental discomfort. The battery life of the solutions is just as severely limited as their hygienic compatibility (bacterial deposits on fabric straps, difficult to disinfect). The content is also one of the clear disadvantages: VR compatible licensed 360° films are very rare.

Video glasses

Depending on the model, video glasses also provide a fascinating cinema experience. However, almost the exact same limitations which apply to VR solutions also apply here. It is purely hardware, which means weak battery life, the need to obtain your own content, including the corresponding licenses, and hence a lot of effort being involved in the integration.

“Due to the cost of integration, the use of video glasses in doctor’s offices and clinics in order to calm down scared patients has up to now been rather impractical for most doctors. Now, the company HappyMed has made this technology more user-friendly, flexible, hygienic, intuitive, immediately usable, and already equipped with licensed films. In that way, the patients are immerged in a relaxed and stress-free environment. With the ZEISS cinemizer®, we are glad to be able to contribute substantially to the solution that had emerged.”
